Advice on residence

If you face any problem or enquiry about the visa or residence, you should go straight to the International Office or the Student Affairs Office at your university/college where you will find specialists who will advise you. This service is covered by the fees paid by the scholarship providing agency. However, the Mission will interfere in the case of omission on the part of the university/college. You should always keep copies of important documents (i.e. passport, university/college letter of admission) in a safe place.

Students should avoid seeking advice from ordinary people or junior lawyers on residence matters. They can obtain expert advice from Student Advice Centre or the International Office for free. They can also get advice from Citizen Advice Bureau. All these agents deal in utmost confidentiality with citizens and residents.

This department provides legal advice and all matters that concern students in the UK, such as visas, registration with the police and Immigration Department in the UK. Students studying in another European Union country should contact with the International Office in the country where they study.

  • In case of a writ of summons from a law court, you should inform the Mission, and comply promptly.

  • Under no circumstances should you surrender your passport to any agency/body.

  • Students must maintain a sufficient balance in their bank accounts for emergencies.
